Almost half the world — over three billion people — live on less than $2.50 a day
Number of children in the world: 2.2 billion
Number in poverty: 1 billion (every second child)
Shelter, safe water and health
For the 1.9 billion children from the developing world, there are:
- 640 million without adequate shelter (1 in 3)
- 400 million with no access to safe water (1 in 5)
- 270 million with no access to health services (1 in 7)

MDG #1: Eradicate Poverty and Hunger.
UNCRC Article 6: All Children have a right to life. Governments should ensure that children survive and develop. Article 24: Children have the right to good quality health care and to clean water, nutritious food, and clean environments so that they will stay healthy. Rich countries should help poor countries achieve this. Article 26: The government should provide extra money for the children of families in need. Article 27 Children have a right to a standard of living that is good enough to meet their physical and mental needs. The government should help families who cannot afford this. Article 32 The government should protect children from work that is dangerous or harm their health or their education.
